Lyptus is a hybrid that is designed to imitate mahogany. That's why it looks and sounds like mahogany.
It is NOT eucalyptus, which as Al said, is ubiquitous in California and even a nuisance here and in Australia (to which it is native as "gum" tree).

Lyptus is indeed a eucalyptus and its "design" is intended for more than the limited notion of being some sort of "imitation mahogany". Simple online research would have been easy enough to do before the post was disrespected as if it had contained misleading or foolish information.
Lyptus - Wikipedia:
“Lyptus is the trade name of a wood made from a hybrid of two species of Eucalyptus tree: Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus urophylla.”

I was just passing along what I was told when shown this particular wood called "Lyptus" at the Wood Crafters store. No disrespect was meant.Obviously, I didn't do my homework here! To my own embarrassment....
But you will note that lower down in that Wikipedia article they repeat almost the exact words for this designer wood product that I repeated from the WC store: "Lyptus is largely marketed as a viable alternative to mahogany." The rest of what they told me was wrong, because I did ask if I'd misheard "eucalyptus" and they insisted it was not.
