I'd also like to determine the characteristic impedance of my speaker cables.
Why? It has virtually no meaning at audio frequencies.

I believe he wants to build an RC filter to remove RF from his speaker cables, and wishes to match the RC filter's impedance to the characteristic impedance of his cables, in order to make the RC filter more effective. Since he is looking to filter out RF, the transmission line formulae are appropriate, no?

More important than a "better built" cable is a "better matched" cable according to how it's terminated?
