design flaw that was corrected with the Tekna Sonic dampers.

The lead weights on the fins should be removed.
IIRC, the magnetic pads weren't very strong and the units had a tendancy to fall off the speakers if mounted vertically which most were.

They made the (newer) dampers smaller and lighter, the pads are the same.
Cheers
That would explain it but there were inconsistencies in the magnet pad strengths as some would lock together like no tomorrow and some would barely hold onto each other.
Most times one could swap the pads around if one had more than a few on hand and find a good magnetic match...
~
The sets of magnetic pads were fabricated in pairs - one pair per damper. Each adhesive pad, the magnetic square applied to the speaker cabinet to which the damper is then attached would only work with the damper it came with; if pads got switched around the dampers would not stay attached. The pads were also *directional* - they had to be "aligned" the way they came from factory to function properly. The pads are designed to "click" into place when aligned properly.

How could they look awful on the back of the speakers if you can't see them?
Regarding their efficacy I suppose it helps to know the secret of the dampers to be able to get the best out of them. Did I mention they had design flaws? LOL
Doing little certainly wasn't my experience, if anything they did too much.
I saw them demonstrated at a Stereophile show and thought I'd give them a try on my Infinity Q3 speakers. I put them on the back behind the woofer and man they just changed the whole character of the speaker. Made them 'tighter' but they didn't go as deep. Eventually I ended up not using them simply because I preferred the bass better without them.
The amazing thing was the extent of the affect, even though the panels were quite thick I could still feel some vibration on them and apparently they radiated quite a lot despite the surely small displacement. Speakers are mysterious things.
Rick
and some times that would seem obviously effective aren't.
