Would a Step Up/Down Converter work as a Power Re-generator like PS Audio products?
Say going from 110v in and keeping it at 110v out.

Regenration changes AC to DC, then cleans it and then turns it back into AC. The early PS Audio P-300 is great and has balanced power and can output at 120hz. This is the best sounding unit. Also regeneration is really only for low current sources. They made a P-500 and 600 as well. Whichever one you try only use half of its potential as it needs headroom or a limiter/protector kicks in that can reduce dynamics.
So if you get a 300 which puts out 300 watts max only use 150 and so on. I have several types of filtering etc for AC and regeneration is the best BY FAR! Too bad a really high current model that could do power amps as well isn't practical. The new Power Plants can't output at 120hx(very important) and aren't balanced either.

Well there is old school technology for this called the motor generator set (MG set for short) which can easily handle thousands of watts.
They are kind of large mechanical beasts, the well built ones work very well. In the "old days" these used to be used for high powered rectifiers with AC motors and DC generators, but you can get them with AC motors and AC generators so no commutators involved.
You might not want one of these in the listening room though.
Unfortunately the only ones I know that are currently being produced are big monster commercial things for hundreds of thousands of watts, slight overkill for a stereo system!

what you are describing is a 1:1 transformer, typically 120/240 to 120/240. Provided it is designed and mfrd properly, has isolation between the primary and secondary windings, electrostatic shield btwn pri and sec, and enough VA capacity, say 1800-2400va, then it might provides some filtering/line isolation from nasties on the primary but not much. It is not regenerating power. FWIW...my experience with power regeneration at the audio system power level was not good. I have had better results with dedicated power wiring and MIT filter boxes.
