Does anyone know what to use to clean/lubricate the contacts on a stereo Shallco precision stepped potentiometer?
When turning the pot, certain position makes a crackly noise and an intermittent hum?
Is this due to dust & dirt on the contacts?

If all the wires are firmly attached, then try a good contact cleaner. Radio Shack probably carries one? spray on the wiper and contacts only. It is a good idea to place a tissue under the pot before spraying the contacts to catch fluid. I use Caig Deoxit
For Shallco a cotton swab soaked with contact cleaner & pushed between the contacts works well without waste & overspray.
What is the best type of contact cleaner / lubricant to use for Shallco pot? Any particular brand or make?
Caig Deoxit, Progold, or Radio Shack "Precision Electronics Cleaner" all do a good job. I would avoid Radio Shack "Control/Contact Cleaner & Lubricant"-- which contains mineral oil.
I have been informed that the Shallco precision stepped potentiometer are lubricated with a tiny amount of conducting contact grease from new.
Would using caig deoxit or precision contact cleaner remove all the dirt, dust & original conducting contact grease?
Does anyone know what kind of conducting contact grease are used in the Shallco stepped pot?
I presume first is to get hold of some deoxit and clean all the contacts & wiper. Than lubricate it with some conducting contact grease?
