Hi,
Can anyone advise on what the best sounding rack (w/shelves) is for around the $1K mark or less?
I need to support 4 components. (So, 4 shelves I'm guessing.)
Is a good 4 shelf rack possible for this kind of $? I know the Silent Running, Grand Prix racks are out of my pricerange...
I know DIY is the thing, but I don't have the time as I travel a lot, and just want to buy a rack as it, that I can just put together easily out of a box.
I'm happy to look at 2nd hand, but it seems the names/brands discussed on AA are endless..
What's the consensus on the best value racks in term of sound/isolation quality at this price? Aesthetics are 2nd to isolation quality in my book.
I've seen names thrown around like Billy Bags, Salamander, Lovan, etc. Is there are a good option at the 1K mark that sounds good in a particular brand?
I've also read that a best bang-for-buck option is to simply buy a generic rack and spend big on the shelves. Can anyone comment on or support this theory? If yes, what is the rack/shelf option in this regard that could work for 1K?
As I said 2nd hand is fine with me so happy to hear of any suggestions!
Thanks!
Andrew

I use IKEA LÄMPLIG cutting boards for shelving with Herbies dBNeutralizer material serving as the interface between rack and shelf. My preamp rests on Super DH Cones/Squares with an additional layer of dBNeutralizer between the DH Square and beech cutting board. Sound Anchors racks are custom made to your specifications. Be sure to factor in space for the shelves and cones if you opt to go this route. I use Black Ravioli isolation pads as footers beneath my digital components. I REALLY like the tweaking flexibility available with the Sound Anchors skeletal approach.
This replaced a Grand Prix Audio stand I had been using prior.

Right on the money, as I have been surprised at how good maple butcher block is for an audio platform. I wrote up some initial findings (Project Rega) in the vinyl section when I added a layer of foamed Pergo to a butcher block, but enough is enough, right?
Nice looking! Three versions(Samson V1,V2,V3) and many sub-versions.

"SAMSON sounds better than the most exotic welded tubing, damped layer composite, or inlaid hardwood racks costing up to $6000 (e.g., RixRacks, Zoethecus, Sound Anchor, Arcici, Billy Baggs, or Walker)."
Hey, if it works for you, that's all that matters.
But replacing a Grand Prix Monaco with what is essentially a commercially produced Flexy doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to me.
What am I missing here?
Hi,
Thanks for the tip on the Mapleshade.
What was it about the Mapleshade that made you choose it over the GP?
Thanks
Andrew
Racks Make sound? I would hope for a rack that makes no sound.
