I dumpstered about 36 pieces of 80VCT 400VA that were brand new. It wasn't worth the effort to salvage the copper and iron.
The one audio amplifier I built with one sounded OK, but it was a bit noisey, even for the garage system. They have no peak power either, they fold-back the current when you push them.
Follow Ups:
I was thinking that it might be good to use them with low draw components. But maybe, rather than using them for audio, I'll stick to applications where the mechanical noise does not matter.

Be aware that they run hot, and have high idle power as well.
I had a Sola on computer and TV power many years ago, it was expensive to have hooked up 24/7.
Yeah, I bet the regulation in this small transformer could be as high as 15%, in which case that would be a lot of heat and money to burn.
