I have found a pair of old Seakay Line Rovers (model LR-1200 or something) that don't have their metal box covers, just the internal plastic housings and a twisted power cord with pigtails for wiring into an electrical box breaker. Are these still worthwhile to use? On what principles do they work? Internet searches have come up basically empty on this 'USES' technology. However, what IS clear from those searches is that guys like Clark Johnsen and others once thought a lot of these devices. Why?
TIA for any explanations, help, discussions, direction, etc, etc.

I really don't recall being very impressed with them, but others certainly were. I don't remember one having an impact across your system. Were this true, I don't know why I would have had two. Perhaps there were multiple models.
The patent is available at

Hope this helps

You NAILED it, tvi (James)! Thanks so much for the post.
Yep, it was just what I suspected: a VERY expensive choke, ala the Hammond babies that are so popular here on the AA. Hmmmmmm, I'll have to think about using these guys, as chokes take four weeks to stabilize and we have power outages around here every month or so, and every day, sometimes, in the summer. Rural living is not always what it is cracked up to be, at least when it comes to clean, uninterrupted juice.
Thanks again tvi (James). Like I said, you really nailed it
Winston,
The first line conditioner I ever purchased was a Seakay with Uses Technology. As I recall it was very expensive at the time (the early 90's). I had it on loan for my very first CES and after the show I could not live with out it so I purchased it- I think it cost me around $1000 which at the time (I was living in my factory at the time) was all the money in the world.
A few months ago I blew the dust off the unit and plugged my system into the Seakay. By todays standards its effect is slight but still noticeable so if yours is "paid for" and you like the effect- great!
A little history. From what I remember the unit was an adaptation of an industrial technology. The founder of the company had a personal tragedy shortly after it started to get buzz, left the industry for a year or two, and when he returned, he was not able to get it going again. This is all pretty hazy as this was a long time ago but this is what I remember. I also seem to recall that the unit works on the entire circuit it is plugged into and does not require that you plug components directly into the unit for results.
I'd be interested to hear your findings when you get yours up and running.

Thanks, Ted and Howard!
Ted, my problem is that I don't know if the unit is fully compatible with my current filtering (Alan Maher design stuff). Alan doesn't know a thing about the "USES" technology employed or how it will interact with my other stuff, and thus my query herein. If we could determine the technological basis for the units, we could figure out if it will be problematic before we stick them in. These puppies also take a number of days, if not weeks, to 'warm-up' and fully function, if memory serves. That would lead me to conclude they are a choke-like device (ala Hammond), but I don't know poopies from shinola on this one. It would also be a major PITA to re-arrange my breaker panel to accommodate the devices, as I believe they are placed as the first or top breakers in the panel. Again, thus my query.
Thanks, Ted for your time and effort!
And thanks Howard, for the tip on DO. I believe that was one of the articles I reviewed that came up on the Google search I discussed in the original post, but if I recall, the review merely describes the changes the unit makes, not the technology behind the device and those changes it causes. Thanks for the heads up, though. I'll re-check to make sure I was reading the review you cited.
