Right now I've got my front end (Ayre) plugged into a 15 year old power wedge 116. It's been through several brown outs/black outs, a few lightning hits, and several blown fuses. All of it's outlets are cracked or damaged (the plastic part on the outside) and it still has it's oem throw away power cord.
I know this thing can't be doing my system any favors.
I'm looking to replace it with something like a synergistic research QLS-6.
thoughts?

Hi Enchantment,
Assuming you haven't made any changes to your setup in the last six weeks (I escaped from the asylum for a while), I suggest you forego the power conditioners altogether for your Ayre front end and spend the funds on 1) installing a dedicated outlet, 2)a SR Teslaplex receptacle (yes it is 'all that' and does sound better than the Oyaide), and 3) a SR T2 power cord for the Ayre preamp & CDP. For about a grand and a half, you will have the best sounding power setup for your Ayre (short of a $5k SR Power Cell 10SE).
I found this combo to be the best for my K-1xe and CX-7e after numerous power cord and receptacle comparisons. I also tried the Furman IT-Reference 20i and Chang Lightspeed conditioners (both very good PCs) - sound of Ayre equipment is best without them.
I recently purchased a PS Duet with very good results. I'm also using the Ayre player.
Audience is the current heat in PC's but spendy. I have not heard what they can or cannot do. If you have not run or had an electrician run a dedicated home run from your panel to your gear, the PC isn't going to make much difference. That is where I would spend money first. I have always been partial to the MIT Z boxes and they are OOP but MIT makes a "new" box that I would have to audition if in the market. Coils and caps but they do it right.
"E pur si muove...And yet it moves"
..was the only one that made a difference in my system. I went from crappy power strip to Panamax power strip with filtering to a PS Audio UPC-200. I can't say I ever heard a difference with any of them. The PowerVar I tried stopped the transformer hum in my CD player, but I'd be hard pressed to identify changes out of the speakers. The Furman IT Reference, OTOH, did make a difference in sound, extending both the top and bottom end.
Of course, people swore by both the Panamax and the PS Audio, so try before you buy (or at least be able to return).
I believe the SR QLS-6 is just a power strip with no passive filtering but it does have the Quantum Tunneled SR outlets.
Have you thought about replacing the outlets in the PW 116 and replacing the stock power cord? I would imaging an SR T2 or T3 PC and upgraded outlets on the 116, assuming it is still functioning properly, would be a good basic PC.The suggestion to go with Ayre's own Power Conditioner is a good option and is priced pretty reasonable.
Without stepping up to the true AC regenerators or Balanced power, basic passive AC filtering offers marginal improvements but there are some passive units that actually offer very good performance but these run in the $2-3K range. Of course, this has been my experience in my
system(s) and others may offer differing opinions and/or options
but the proof is in the pudding(listening).Cheers

according to Ted.
The PW has never been very good in my system... even before the Ayre equipment. I don't think it did the old Carver stuff any favors, but it had surge protection on top of the filtration so I kept it.
The Ayre PC is too expensive for me at the moment and by time I replaced the PC and outlets on the wedge I could just buy something new and better. I had my eye on the QLS because of the price and I've also heard reports of it out performing more expensive conditioners like the Hydra.
The QLS 6 and 9 were primarily designed to accomodate multiple MPC's in a full SR cable system lashup.
I have heard reports of the SR Tesla outlet outperforming Oyaide, Furutech and other outlets. Since these are included in the QLS power strips, it just might outperform more expensive conditioners.
I do have an SR Tesla outlet but just haven't had time to do a shootout with my Oyaide outlets.
Cheers
The Telsa AC Outlet are just superb. I never felt the bass hit me in the chest till the Telsa's. Stage width and height outstanding. High's pure and open with no hype or forwardness.
I still don't get how they did it, but I sold all my Oyaide and I never thought I would but the Telsa's are in another plane. I can see why their conditioner as gotten such great reviews they use these outlets.

PS Audio Duet or Quintet. $200 and $400 @ Audio Advisor.
"Get it while you can."
Are you talking PS audio type where you completely re-do the power from AC to DC to AC ?
Or some filters , or some balanced conditioner ?
Sounds like your existing conditioner needs a tune-up, new sockets, perhaps better power cord, clean existing connections.
I had No conditioner and I can tell you that I heard a significant difference from my my CDP when I connected a PS300 unit.
Like all things in life..... try it and see.
It is not "GREEN" uses a fair amount of electricity but a noticable upgrade to CDP. Outstanding protection too.
You seem to be a big fan of Ayre (as am I) so why not purchase their line conditioner? I would think that would be as synergistic as you can get. Best of luck!
