If a custom project such as that would be an affordable option via the particular electronics workshop you mention, I recommend that you follow John Swenson's lead -- gain as much info from his posts, ask for further advice if need be, and then share it with the builder. Otherwise (as previously mentioned), there are well designed/made pre-built test bench type power supplies that are not too pricey and should not be too hard to find in a 220V version which can sound quite excellent vs. typical wall warts, IME...

The lab supplies that I've seen thus far are rather huge (like 3-4 DacMagic's stacked). Are there smaller ones?
If you look at low current test bench power supplies (a test bench power supply is not the same thing as a lab power supply) you should be able to find one with a somewhat small footprint (3.5" x 5.5" x 7" for example)...
