I used to have a Boston Audio carbon CD Matt that costs more than twice the price of the Millenium Audio CD Matt. The Boston Audio carbon CD Mat was quiet, but the music became slow and languid and the highs were a bit muted, when I compared it to the Millenium Audio CD Mat. The Millenium Audio Mat was also very easy to handle compared to Boston which was thick and fragile, you can chipped it if you accidentally drop it, whereas the other was like quite indestructible. Also Millenium Audio CD Mat was as thin as paper so that made placement in tray loaders possible as well as top loading CD transport.
I also used the Millenium Audio CD mat when playing DVDs on my Oppo 970 universal player. DVDs which cannot track properly played well with the CD mat on top of it. So those with DVD players, please try out the Millenium Audio CD mat too on stubborn DVDs which refuse to track well

Thanks for all of the info on the M-CD mat. I love my Boston Audio "Turntable" mat, and you are right about its physical description. It's thick and fragile. No big deal on the turntable though because once you put it there, it stays there. You never have to pick it up again and it does its job well. I really like what it does for my turntable.

But "thick and fragile" is what keeps me from trying their CD mat. Too thick means the magnetic puck on my transport is too far away. Too fragile means that I probably will get tired of using it. The Millennium mat looks like a better mat for that kind of repetitive placement. I think I'll have to try one.

Have you tried it on a top loader yet? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on that.

  I use an Accustic Arts Ref Drive 2 now, just upgraded from their previous transport, the Drive1 Mk2. I was using the Boston Audio CD mat previously. It was quite a chore removing it and putting it back when changing CDs, because it was heavier than the CD and thicker too. Being made of graphite, it was easily scratched, and not only that, the porous surface of the CD mat attracted dust and lint frequently and I had to remove the accumulation from time to time with a small paint brush.
  Also, despite the more shallow dimple chamfered into the center of the Boston CD mat to provide better rest for the transport's CD puck, the mat was still too thick, and my magnetic puck never did really center quite well with the CD mat in place, since the centering pin of the transport spindle never really sit fully into the female slot of the puck. As a result,each time using the Boston mat, I had to nudge the puck into a central position by touch and sight, what a pain!
  So I was very relieved to find an alternative to the Boston CD Carbon mat that not only was much easier to handle, no need regular cleaning maintenance, no worries of being scratched/chipped, no problem of puck not aligning well, but also on comparison, sounded better than the Boston CD mat in my setup.
  As mentioned earlier, with the Boston mat, music was very quiet, but it also became slower and more languid, and also the highs frequencies seem muted/truncated (you will note this distinction when trying out the Millenium CD mat), in short the music lacks sparkle and life. No such issues noted with Millenium CD mat, as quiet as the Boston Mat and the life and sparkle returned ;-)
  So moving to the Millenium Audio CD mat was in all aspects a big upgrade from Boston's.
  Further more, whereas the Boston Audio Carbon mat was so thick that it cannot be used on tray loaders (eg DVD players etc), the Millienium Audio being as thin as paper was tried on my Oppo tray loader when I played DVDs. I found that it even resolved tracking issues with badly manufactured or damaged DVDs, that I never could watch fully without enduring jerks and hang-ups here and there. So the Millenium Audio CD mat is now a full time companion when I watched DVDs on my oppo player.
