Looking for opinions/impressions from those of you who might've messed around with different plating and base metal combos on A/C outlets & power connectors in video applications. I'm soon to pull the trigger on a new plasma TV and plan to trick-out the A/C feed components. So, bronze/copper/siver/gold/paladium/rhodium? Any experience you can share would sure help me narrow my focus and would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Power conditioning and calibration were already on the list. I've got some unused Oyaide outlets and connectors and thought I'd press those into use as well. I guess I'll start with paldium and take it from there.
I have Panamax power conditioner, Hammond choke 193L connected at plasma IEC via the cable liberator. The 193L does wonder for my tv: color looks better, and noise is reduced when i watch DVD. I intend to add more chokes in the future.
You might want to be careful how many chokes you add to your system. I went out and spent hundreds of dollars on 193M & 193L only to find out AFTER the fact that there's a 25 Henry limit on the amount of chokes a system can tolerate. It's funny how this has never been mentioned in any of my research of prior posts or threads,in all the questions I asked but after I continue to load up my system with chokes and post my result,,,, then I find out about this 25 Henry limit. I had 55 Henry's when I finally found this out and I fully intended on getting more chokes too. It's these little things that never seemed to get mentioned til after you've spend the money on too many of them.
That's a 25 HENRY LIMIT,,,,,, NOW it's been posted.
Cheers,
Robin

Just me but I have a thing for Bybee's and I personally love what they bring to video. On my Sony XBR CRT with DirecTv HD, I have both an IEC Bybee adapter and an AC Bybee adapter on a VH Flavor 1 power cord, Bybee RCA adapters on a Synergistic Line Doubler X2 Component cable and Bybee coax adapters for the incoming DirecTv signal. I love the sharpness gains from the Bybees to the point that I shut off my Acoustic Revive RR-77 cuz it tends to smooth out the picture. I also use a static discharge system for the screen that keeps the screen from attracting/discharging dust from the power cycles. The only time I dust my screen is when I recoat the screen/outer cabinet with discharge spray.
Oh yeah, the most important thing to do after tweaking is an ISF-calibration,,,, everything's a waste of time w/o a total calibraton that includes an accurate gray scale.Cheers,
Robin

Very true satfrat. I had my Sony CRT Video monitor calibrated to ISF specs by a certified ISF technician and the resulte were NOT subtle. Add in AC regeneration for power and there is now no desire to switch over to plasma or LCD :-)
I also found a very slight improvement in clarity by swapping in an Oyaide P-046 on the Video monitors PC.

CRT TV's may be smaller than the rest but it's still the best picture available. I didn't mention it but i did cut off the captive cord and installed an Acme cryoed silver IEC terminal so I could use that VenHaus Flavor 1 power cord. I've had my display device calibrated twice now because of all the tweaks I've done to it. Something else hardly ever mentioned but very important is the background lighting for a display device. The lighting should be 13%(I think?) of the total light output and should be 6500K,,, or white light. 6500K not only takes the tension off your eyes for easier viewing but it'll also enhance the colors. I got my Ideal-Lume 6500K lighting system from CinamaQuest, very highly recommended tweak for a calibrated set.

Perhaps plasma TV's are a different matter, but when it comes to CRT TV's and various video gear, my eyes have not seen any truly remarkable improvements to a video picture via the use of various high performance cables, connectors, AC outlets -- on the other hand, my ears have found that HT audio is *very* sensitive to cables/connectors/power cords/AC outlets as well as vibration control methods, not unlike any audio component. Until I selected a pure silver Oyaide digital/video cable, I simply did not notice any remarkable video display improvement due to a video cable upgrade. YMMV
However, much more so than any high performance cables/connectors, I find that power line conditioning is a *must have* for better video performance. If high performance HT audio is not a priority within the plan, even a low-cost Powervar, OneAC, etc. isolation transformer based PLC as often found on eBay that will (very important) provide the proper max. wattage capacity for your TV/video components AC load is all you really need. If high performance HT audio is also part of the plan, a baluns-based PS Audio power line conditioner provides excellent power line conditioning for both HT video and HT audio, IME...
