You are expecting a lot from weekend-EEs, heh.
In passing?
I think that with a 1st order high-pass as planned, given that the current slope reaches 3rd order PDQuickly, that a higher -3db point, than 3.5k, may well be essential anyway! Even where theory says this \_/ will happen.
At spkr level and IME, using a cheaper series cap for finding out purposes, does not always let you make valid decisions, because the treble they do let through 'gets in the way'. Yes / no?
One of my reasons for trying out a line level R&C type, along with the lower costs of bits in getting to a final result. Combined with, I've found that the two I have in place are effectively transparent* using commercial / basic parts. See my signature block! ;-)!
* Perhaps I'm misled by their minor - out of band - roles?! .....
One stops mid-bass and ELF reaching the current crossover. Even though it has 2 air-core-coils, it does use sand-cast R's!!! and the filter did sweeten things up w/o signal loss.
T'other is a -3db @~6k low-pass on the mid-bass amp's input, ~ 1 octave above the driver's own roll-out ~3.3k.
