I got an M-1 from Cryo-Parts to reterminate my Richard Gray cable that plugs into my R-1 recepticle,WPC-Z cover combo. Upon taking the Gray apart I found its gauge too large to put on the M-1. Had it been from one cable I could have managed but Gray uses four wires gathered together at the end. They also tout all their cables are hand terminated by Gray himself. The termination looked good, it was soldered and plastic bits were added I assume to reduce vibration potential and help isolate the three conductors. I had been looking forward to posting a photo of the impressive combination for all to see but alas I've done an A'gon ad instead. Oh well. No what's Santa gonna bring me?

If I understand the situation correctly, another strategy would be to separate the 4 wires and twist two and two together and put one lead on one side of the screw that tightens the pressure plate and the other pair on the other side of the screw. With careful insertion technique you can get all or nearly all of the strands into the opening. If by chance any are pushed to the outside of the opening, either try again or snip off the protruding wire to prevent it from touching anything else. It will be worth the effort.

Well, I decided I would go ahead and do it. I needed something to do today. It took only half an hour and went smoothly. I took my time and double and triple checked for proper continuity. I'm glad I did. I took two familiar recordings and subtle parts of the recordings became easier to pick out. Front to back image improved as depth of different parts of the recording became more discernable. The overall tonal balance seemed very similar but the bass had more character and togetherness if you will. The bass was not louder just better. The HF sounded about the same. I'm glad I put my laziness aside today.

why don't you simply take a pair of side cutters to the four wires that you need to combine in the Richard Gray and snip off enough strands from each wire so that you can comfortably fit them into the connector. It won't make 3/5 of didly difference to the sound. Enjoy your new Oyaide and have a very merry Christmas.

Mostly cuz I'm too lazy. When I looked at all the wire I had to cram in such a tight space I decided to punt. I know I could have done it, I have heat shrink the needed size togroup the wires and a good strategy like you mentioned to regroup the wires without needing to trim any. You just strip one long and twist the others along it but again I felt it wouldn't be worth the hassle. I'm probably wrong and overly lazy. Thanks for your post.
