Carbon fiber shielding? ERS cloth? Just curious and want to learn from your experimentation.
Thanks.
Follow Ups:
Carbon fiber did nothing. Fiberglass cloth sleeving also did nothing. When I say "did nothing", I mean there was not an audible difference.
I experimented a little with ERS, but only at the filter enclosure, not on the TI-Shield ground wire or the leads. I did not like the results. Really surprising how sensitive these filters are to tweaking. I think you should experiment with anything you can get your hands on that makes sense. Who knows what you may come up with. Please keep me informed if you find any tweaking to improve the performance.
Thanks,
Chris
Insofar as I know, fiberglass should have contributed nothing positive and that mirrors what you found. I'm not aware of anyone using fiberglass as a shielding element. On the other hand, carbon fiber can shield and is conductive, so I would have expected some value there. You found none, and I believe you. Your ERS experience seems to mirror that of others here, in that it can help or hurt, but doesn't appear to be neutral.
I just may have to break down and order the TI Shield. Was hoping for a less expensive solution. Did you find any cheaper source of smaller TI Shield than Percy?
Reading back through the archives, as I did years ago, you're not the only one who found value in shielding these R-Cs, but I hadn't heard of anyone grounding the shielding on these R-Cs until you brought it up. Your experimentation is really helpful to the rest of us. Thanks.
My pleasure Bart. See if Al or someone that has some TI-Shield they are not using, sell you some. This way you do not have to purchase a whole sheet of the TI-Shield.

HowdyI'm not cdc and perhaps this post is a little off topic, but I've had recent bad luck with too much carbon fiber and earlier with too much ERS paper on my wires. I have a problem in that even a little bit seems to be too much so I have shied away from them. They take the life out of the music. Something just seems to be missing. I don't enjoy my system as much. It doesn't matter to me whether it's the power cords, interconnects or speaker wire.
Perhaps I just have less RFI than others (unlikely with 4 Tivos, cell phones, wireless phones, wireless network connections, gobs of digital gear and switching power supplies) or perhaps my system is more tolerant to RFI than some, but the there only seem to be downsides and no benefits to to shielding my wires, using carbon fiber or ERS paper here.

I'm sure it happens. I haven't reached that point yet with CF. Have never tried the ERS cloth. Sometimes I shield, sometimes I don't. Can't claim any scientific observations here, just trying to do my best by it...
