I just got two lines put in, one 15amp, the other 20amp. I used the great info on this site to give instruction to the electrician and I used audiophile outlets.
I am in the process of wanting to get a higher performance amp/pre and sell my Levinson 383 integrated. My complaint was that it was too laid back and uninvolving, a little muddy. I blamed a little boomy bass on my speakers (Verity Parsifals). I wanted to get tubes in the system for more natural timbres to voices and instruments...etc etc.
I am in shock as to what a difference the new lines have made in my system! I can't begin to describe how much more energetic it has become, and, unless I'm going mad, the bass control is so much tighter - so it wasn't my Parsifals at all!! I don't know if this makes sense, but I'm playing the volume on familiar CDs at much lower levels than I used to for the same sound-level. Everything seems clearer - not muddy like it was. This 383 is a pretty good little integrated! Black, black backgrounds and better imaging for sure. Wow.
Is this nuts? Can the dedicated powerline really do this? (note: previous line was a mish-mash of rooms, and was un-grounded). Am I just hearing things to make me feel better about the holes in my walls the electrician made?
Anyways, thanks all for the info that motivated me to do this. I can't imagine a better upgrade for less than $1k...

Congrats. Goiod that yr Happy with it. But frankly you now have a Basic electrical circuit to your equipment. IMO it's not that there is Anything special or spectacular about your current install... just that the previous one was clearly really really Poor.
It's going from a shared and ungrounded line to two that are direct and attached to high quality outlets. So it highlights how bad my circuit was before - no doubt.
Don't know what it takes to make it spectacular, but I guessing I'm 90% there and I'm generally willing to leave the 10% on the table, as it's typically painful or expensive.
Do let me know if you think there are further, non-intrusive (ie no more fishing lines etc.) options to move towards spectacular.
Thanks
The 240 volts Circuit and Dedicated Line has been the best improvement ever in my system in these ten years being a dedicated audiophile. I made it 240 volts since I have the Richar Gray Power Company 240 volts substation plus the RGPC 1200s Power Line Conditioner (to complete the Isogray System). Clarity, soundstage, fine inner details, blacker background: the whole spectrum sounds better, from top to buttom. Best, Antonio Machado.
You went ,AC wise, from a worse case scenario to a best case scenario. My dedicated line was a significant improvement to the extent that AC line conditioners I've used have not provided a noticable improvement.

cheap-Jack,
I think that almost everyone recognizes that Clark is using sarcasm here, not a serious request for "proof".
Anyone who has read his posts elsewhere would be aware of this.
On the other hand, you still seem to be oblivious to how rude you are coming off to other folks, witness this post:
http://www.AudioAsylum.com/audio/tweaks/messages/14/145962.html
Why the "bud" ?, that sounds very aggressive and contentious.
Using that questionable form of address colors your whole post, and makes it hard to decide whether or not you are just bragging about your DIY cables while dismissing the original poster's question summarily, or are just trying to pass along your experiences. You could have commented without the implied disrespect, Bud.
Additionally, you should be aware of reasons for elevating audio cables off of the floor, it has been discussed many times in both Tweakers and Cables, and a simple search would provide many posts on the subject.
Yet you felt compelled to post this:
http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/tweaks/messages/14/145969.html
Again, to what purpose other than to try and stir the pot?
PLEASE, if none of this is intended, then realize that you are not communicating very well with your fellow inmates, and if for some reason you think that you have a right or license to brow-beat other inmates, you need to be disabused of that notion pronto, or suffer the obvious consequences.

I put in two separate lines with 'selected for quiet-ness' ELCB's back in the 1980's, and we added two extra copper coated earth posts near the meter box!
Big difference, quieter, nicer, much less EDGE. revealed OTHER mimor ertaht problems, improving erath paths with lower Z is a GOOD thing.
Gross problems? fridge and extractor fan switching? gone!
Go balanced? nah don't think I need to.
low priority anyway.

you're flirting with real danger - no two grounds have the same "potential"

is that better!

knowledgeable than I on the subject. I DO know its been discussed often including in a thread a ways down the page.

Then he'll find out how unsafe duel grounds rods are.
Also lightening protection.
What I wanted a much better earth - put in add two more I said.
theres' now just one consisting of three, screwed together, tinned over the copper around the threads!
They probably used an auger, and it ISN'T under the house. the original was!
What a muddle-headed old wombat I am! ;-)

It came across like you put in 2 or more separate grounds.
I was researching about putting on our house a lightening protection system.
That and reading about what really is electricity certainly flies
in the face of what Audiophiles perceive it to be.
Safety is a major priority.

one thing I do find strange is the AC outlets stuff.
Because down here our standard ones are so very good, ..... but you've been here! Next time have a captain cook.

Anytime the electrical system does not have a separate earth ground, there will be the potential for much greater noise on the line. Secondly, you cannot protect the system, nor effectively filter the AC with common products made for this purpose unless the system has a separate ground path. Using "audiophile" products is not the point, it's the proper implementation of a ground that is.

Hi.
Tell me what type of power cables are used for this installation. I bet you you'll find much better sound if you choose oxygen-free high conductivity copper conductors instead of those cheapie Romax (most using recylced copper) from Home Depot.
What you now hear is NOT nuts. This is for real, with scientific explanation.
Surely I spent much much less than a grand to get it done soncially right with OFHC pure copper conductors - I DIYed it.

PS: dont skip the powerline filters.
Nema codes spec copper wire to be 99% pure for AC home use. That is pretty pure, reagent grade for most chemistry lab work. Of course, recent events show that there is little testing being done, so who can say for sure if the Chinese made wire meets such specs 8^(...
I try to locate the older TX coded wire. It is an dead soft, annealed wire and has about 4% better conductivity. It is not really stocked by most distributors today as the dead soft wire makes it difficult to push down a conduit.
Stu
PS detractors will ask if you did a double blind test......

Hi.
Since dedicated powerlines are usually installed outside the wall inside the premise, we don't need to stick with any Romax or the like house wires that every electrical contractor always use per the electrical code.
You can go for Belden high conductivity audio cables, e.g. 8744 #12 2-wire, rated with a UL/CSA 600V rated, which can handle 25A.

No your not crazy. One of my best and cheapest tweaks was simply tightening the lugs in my 40 year old breaker box.
Electricity and how it directly effects sound is one of the WOW subjects of getting into the tweaky end of this hobby.
Further cleaning of your power supply may well produce results.
Have you thought about what it might do for, say, your computer?
Now you have started to consider how dirty power can be, perhaps some isolation transformers might be a line of experiment.
The separation of digital and non digital is another direction many have found profitable.
It's endless.
Your experience mirrors that of many others before you. You may be nuts, but you're not alone, hehe.
BTW, what outlets are you using?
Hi.
I bet you many audiophiles out there are doing much much more "funny" things without getting any where.
c-J
.
;-)
no idea if they are better/worse than simple hubbel outlets, but they looked better (it's a living room).
