Literally, 'crystal' clear AM radio reception!
Edits: 03/19/21Follow Ups:
...Due to a wiring error the tuning eye worked just the opposite from the way it was supposed to; on station it was tiny and should have been wide or just the opposite, I no longer remember. What I do remember is that circuit was the last to be wired up and it was quite late when I did it. I was told to come up to bed but I just wanted to wrap it up. The next morning I went down to Czech the tuner out; it worked quite well (the rf deck was pre-aligned) in all respects except the "eye". Oh well, I could live with it.

It is harder to tune, I would opine ("maximum contraction", in EICOspeak), for full open vs. full closed, but not impossible, of course. One just kind of tunes through the max open point and asymptotically lands in the middle of it.
That seems to be the way I tune via a center-channel meter, too -- but I digress. ;)
all the best,
mrh
Congratulations!
I started out w/ a Radio Shack Kit crystal radio some 50+ years ago,
then a Halcrafters
a few receivers before I got my own Fisher series 80 tuner,
and now have way too many....
Happy Listening
