Do you really need the schematic? You could get a can of freeze spray, leave the tuner on until the signal meter goes dead, and then hit the chip wiht the spray and see if it comes back on.

Funny you say that - I mentioned in one of the posts that I don't have any freeze spray. I must edited it out later, cause I don't see that comment now. Most of my gear is tube-type, so I don't have everything I should for SS work. Was in the biz nearly 20 years, but that was a long time ago.
The tuner started acting a little differently once it was open on the bench. Sometimes it would fail as soon as I turned it on, and the stereo indicator was sometimes also off. I discovered that cooling the LA1231 demod chip with a cold Q-tip would fix both problems for a short while. (I used a can of compressed air held upside down to chill the Q-tip.) I ordered the IC a couple days ago, so I'll know soon if that's it.

Your on the right track! A Luxman tuner is definately worth the trouble.

To tell the truth, I was surprised to find these parts inside. It's a pretty common chip set. The Marantz SR2000 used these same ICs, and probably dozens or hundreds of other models did too. The remainder of the circuitry and overall build quality isn't anything remarkable. I think you could get the same performance on the used market from tuners selling for a lot less. It's a nice looking unit though, and like you say, definitely worth repairing.
