Wonderfull jazz station on this site...very involving!!!

Follow Ups:
I see that they now transmit in Stereo.
A big step forward.
But, Timbo is right.
Maybe, for certain types of music, it makes no difference, as many popular music stations compress their audio. Even some CDs compress their music (just like the radio).
However, there ARE stations with beautiful signals that a good FM tuner does yield surprisingly good results.
Okay?
It's data compressed crap.

Who listens to fm seriously it's for background music as we all know fm as is fm dial is seriously compromised ...I mean really Tell us something we don't know!!
What an asshole
Timbo is a respected contributor here. Your epithet was out of place. Argue his position rather than reverting to ad homenim.
and No I don't just use it as background.Live Orchestral concerts, by visiting and local orchestras, live concerts for HIP.
Live Jazz, and live folk festivals.
Broadcasts of live recordings of same.
FM on live broadcasts is a serious source compared to most issued for sale classical recordings. Over edited, over miked, over spliced, Eq'd and compressed. So Mummy's who LOVE Andre BLOODY Rieu's slop, can cope with it.
What US consumers have allowed to happen is their problem.
Suck it up.

We do suck, Tho, I live near Boston and my FM is pretty good.
Sounds like I should move to Australia! Actually, I have a few good stations that I can listen to with my Excelent B&K TS-18 (Fanfair), Radio Shack Digital and now GE Superadio 2.
Actually I have a stack of excellent tuners. You can pick them up for next to nothing. I think I paid $35 for the B&K.

Yeah we have Live (called symphony cast) here in the phoenix area there broadcast is not too great....actually I get much more enjoyment with this jazz station online...if you actually listen to it sounds very good for either fm dial or online...most online streaming stations really do not sound good...This one does!!
get a grip! fm is seriously compromised in so many ways and you listen to this like its a hifi source LOL... I now understand why you like little bandwidth baby speakers, you listen to rm radio bandwidth restricted and all. :)
I like fm too...but it cannot be and will never be up there...I mean just because your happy with fm and its restrictions as your main source does not mean its good, its your disillusion (diluting yourself) into believing its good.
the best sounding FM station for classical was wfmt chicago but it also is shit nowa days, even the late night (midnight) stuff just does not sound all that great anymore.
I have lived in chicago, indiana, texas dallas fort worth, California and now Arizona they all suck!

My spheres get down to 32 Hz in-room. Well enough to pick out bass lines on acoustic church organs.
the new main system will get down to 20 hz as a minimum, probably 16Hz. QUAD 63s plus 4 subs.
The FR/Kitchen system gets down to 20 hz.
There are important aspects of live broadcasts on FM that make it a serious musical source for classical lovers. The immediacy of no editing, the simple miking which IMO always gets out of the way of the music making, and LBNLeast no storage medium.
IME all storage media including digital are lossy.
ABC Classic FM often repeats such broadcasts, from digital storage, and my wife, who necessarily has better hearing than me, but not a trained musician, beat me to that view.
I personally know a few of Auntie ABC's recording engineers and they agree, too!
I have also have recorded live acoustic concerts here in Canberra, using just two mikes in ORTF array, for a local community license FM station, it being one of the good ones I alluded to above.
I did this for two years. On several occasions, from a recording studio above one of the better halls. But, having heard the performers live in that hall, I could tell that even the digital feed into 'stat 'phones was not as good. And this was 24 bit/96Khz!
If you think a digital internet feed, that is almost certainly using a lossy digital codec, sounds good, I wonder about your own acuity. OR that FM station, that you are comparing to, has very poor engineering standards. OR, your own FM set-up, including the antenna, is compromised.
:-)!

That that FM station really MUST have very poor engineering standards.
And, that it's likely not your hearing that's the issue.
I've heard a few Fultons in US citizen's systems on postings here and they are very natural sounding designs.

we listen a lot to ABC Classic FM. most of most days.My new system - still in progress - will use QUAD 63s and four large DIY subs in an arc.
Spheres for the derived and delayed channels, later on!
Then we can look at 4.1 and 5.1 music sources.

Was your answer for me or Tim?Here in DC, we have WETA for classical and it is a very good sounding station. We have WPFW for Jazz and a lot of other off-the-beaten track music. There is a second classical station, but I usually stick with WETA. There is good FM listening in this city.
I have been listening to FM since the 60's. I guess I'm used to the compromises, but then all souses are compromised in one way or another.

Jazz FM station out of Newark. Outstanding. Blues from 3-4pm eastern time M-F, and the always wonderful Rhythm Review Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.

Most FM stations are aimed at an audience that doesn't give a shit about sound quality.
Because they don't know what that is.
One of the 'great' achievements of capitalism, as presented by the Music Industry and its umbilical promoters, radio companies.

Sadly, Timbo, You are correct. they don't want to have to think and decide, best to you I hope you are doing well,Jim.
Woulda been so nice if the station filtering allowed multiple genres.
Also one of the station tiles says NPR National 89.3 Washington D.C.WPFW Pacifica/Jazz is 89.3 in D.C.
WAMU is NPR in DC @88.5
