I use four of them in my BAT VK-D5SE cd player. I have sets of both Sovtek and EH gold pins. Usacale Audio and others say these's no difference in the sound between the two but I beg to differ. In my player the Sovteks are brighter in the highs and tighter in the bass. The EH's are a bit rolled off in the highs and the bass is a bit fuller. The EH's sound more tubey than the Sovteks. Personally, I prefer the Sovteks as the cymbals and higher end details are more distinct. The bass is a little thinner with them but tighter with a bit more slam. Midrange with either is a toss up. No matter what Upscale and others say, there is a definite difference between them. I guess it's just what would sound best in your syetem. I've never heard the Reflektor version of these tubes as they're waaay out of my price range and a lot of them are fakes.

All those tubes are made by the former Reflector factory, currently owned by The New Sensor, there is no other source.
I presume you mean the NOS tubes, made there prior to their discontinuation in 1992. Yes, those are superior in all respects.
Yep, that would be them. $500 to $600 a pair for them is ridiculous money not knowing if they're genuine.
...and for genuine ones.
Victor, I've searched and haven't seen any for less. I'm not at all unhappy with the Sovteks that I have in the player at present. I can't afford to risk buying tubes out of Eastern Europe and hope I'm getting what I paid for. If there's another source I haven't found it. I'd love to have a quad of them for a sane price but, so far, no joy.

...who bought them for about $200, I think that is the lowest you can find today.
You are right, though, the current production tubes are not too bad, but we still reject a noticeable number.
Thanks slovell1, I appreciate you providing me with your experience.
No problem. Either of them are fine sounding tubes. I guess it comes down to how you want to tailor your system.
