Hello inmates,
I have a bad luck with Revox B-710 cassette deck. Long story short, it generated a problem - it produced floating sound (or flutter, or whatever is the correct term), and I gave it to a tech. The tech said that the pinch rollers were worn and had cracks on them, and he ordered somewhere (but not from Germany) two new rolleres with different diameter. The deck worked OK for a month or so, and then the problem reappeared. Then I gave it to the same tech (which, I believe, was my mistake), and the same thing happened. Now my question: when I took the deck back today, the tech warned me that the Revox deck has a solenoid valve inside that gets hot and advised me to touch the deck's top[ cover and when it gets warm, switch the deck off (!!!). So, I am wondering what is the relationship between the solenoid valve that gets warm and cassette feed mechanism? I suspect that the tech just did not realize what he was saying. Saying that I should switch the deck off as soon as I feel that it gets warm is a nonsense. I asked him why didn't the manufacturer warn about it? He said - "I don't know".

...check the Tapeheads.net - it is frequented by the technicians and just people with experience.

I registered on Tapeheads.net, but it appears that I can only read various topics, because: "You have insufficient privileges to post threads here"...
I am not sure what their current set of rules is... but in the meantime you can just do a search on the subject, perhaps there have been previous discussions of that issue.

Thank you, Victor!
