All I can say is that it needs a good cleaning.

For $30, I'd probably take it, if I needed a 7" reel 1/4" 4-track machine.

But I need a 10.5" reel, 1/4" 4-track machine, so, I'll pass.

A 909 IS a quarter track 10" deck!

If that's not your cup of tea, then I have a nice Teac X-1000R I'm looking to sell.

  Hmmm. I thought the 909 was a 7" reel deck. Serves me right for not checking! Anyway, I've got a Tascam 44 with the dbx module. Only problem is, it has some transport issues. Reel motors are fine. Capstan motor and pinch roller - not so much. $400 - $600 from now, it'll be fine.
