In Reply to: RE: What exactly does "Exact Match" mean in the search function? posted by Steve Eddy on December 29, 2007 at 13:58:37
Howdy
e.g. http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/search.mpl?slowmessage=search+word&forum=support vs. http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/search.mpl?searchtext=search+word&b=AND&forum=support
Also it's not just a prefix match: http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/search.mpl?slowmessage=ch+wor&forum=support

Mmmm. So it would seem that there's no way to search just on "satri" without pulling up everything that also includes things like "satriani," correct?

"satri -satriani" seems to do what you want: http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/search.mpl?searchtext=satri+-satriani&b=AND&forum=amp
or did I miss sumth'n?
The "Search help" link (at the top right of the search form) http://db.audioasylum.com/search_help.mpl isn't entirely accurate anymore, but "-" seems to work as documented.

Well, it would give the result I want in this particular instance. But it would be nice to have an Exact Match that would match single words in addition to phrases instead of phrases only as seems to be the case presently.
Check out the exact match over on diyAudio. That's what I'd like to see here as well.
