Yes, this can be caused by a lack of room symmetry, or poor room acoustics. Of course, it can also be caused by mis-matched channel levels. What happens when you listen with headphones?

Left room drift is actually very common. You can compensate with floorstanding acoustical treatments but there is another fix if you like getting tweakie.
From your fuse box to your speakers there is one thing in common, right handed threads on all of your screws. If you loosen all of the screws in the entire audio chain you will hear the soundstage open up dramatically and the sound will almost always go back to center.
Finding the balance between electrical, mechanical and acoustical will solve everything. It's easy to get stuck on one part of this trilogy over the rest but once you get the hang of treating everything that has music passing through it in a balanced approach (not too much not too little) your system starts to play itself and the problems go away.
