There are plenty others too, the TC line is usually firewire or coax/toslink while RME offers USB/coax/toslink.
Do a little searching on the digital board and here for 24/192, I am sure plenty of DAC's will come up...

hi Dynaudio ... thought I'd chime in here so people aren't confused. My RME Fireface 800 (and the 400) both do 24/192 and take in firewire, not usb.

The 400 now has a USB interface....see web site

that's new eh? but I'm betting that usb is limited to 48,,, or 96 at best.

All you have to do is read the site and you will see its a full 24/192...it's literally a Fireface 400 with USB.Features
The Fireface UC features all of the proven RME analog and digital circuitry. It is the only device in its class with active jitter suppression, enhanced stand-alone functionality and complete controllability from the front panel, highly flexible I/Os in professional quality, and an unsurpassed 648-channel matrix router - at sample rates of up to 192 kHz.

hiya,
just because I know these dac companies can be confusing with their... 'works up to 192K...' only later to find that means only the spdif input but not the usb (like my stello), I decided to fire off a question to RME
...
Does the new USB input on the Fireface 400 work at 24bit/192khz also? If not, up to what rate does the USB input accept?
Thanks,
...
and got this reply back from RME"
Hello, the USB input is for data, not audio. The unit will work up to 192k, though.

Anyone else confused like me?

10. Driver and Firmware
10.1 Driver Installation
After the Fireface has been recognized, (see 9. Hardware Installation) the hardware assistant
finds a Fireface UC Win (serial number). Please note the Win. If Mac is displayed the unit has
to be disconnected from the computer and its firmware has to be changed to Win (see above)
prior to installing the drivers.
Insert the RME Driver CD into your CD-ROM drive, and follow further instructions which appear
on your computer screen. The driver files are located in the directory \Fireface UC Win on the
RME Driver CD.
Windows now installs the driver of the Fireface UC and registers it
as a new audio device in the system. After a reboot, the symbols of
mixer and Settings dialog will appear in the task bar. The red Host
error LED extinguishes.
In case the warning messages 'Digital signature not found', 'Do not install driver', 'not certified
driver' or similar come up: simply ignore them and continue with the installation.
In case the Hardware Wizard does not show up automatically after connecting the Fireface,
do not attempt to install the drivers manually! An installation of drivers for non-recognized
hardware will cause a blue screen when booting Windows!
Possible reasons why a Fireface is not found automatically:
• The USB port is not active in the system (check the Device Manager)
• The USB cable is not, or not correctly inserted into the socket
• No power. After switching the Fireface on, at least the 7 segment display has to be lit.

No, the 96 k limit seems to be a softeware limit by those who don't want to write proper assync drivers. Even cheap Musiland does 192k reliably on usb.
ooh that's right, I remember you saying that...
do I hear a dig in there somewhere hehe.

So, I take it that a guy can have a DAC that can play 24/176 and/or 24/192, but only in the right circumstances?
When you say dac...
If you have a dac that can accept 24/192 and you pass 24/192 to it... then your good to go... but
the 'hard' part is getting the 24/192 out of you're computer intact and not re/down sampled by windows or your soundcard... usb won't cut it at 24/192 yet ,,, right guys? Go to www.phasure.com and talk to PeterSt if you want an assured way of doing it. computer/hardware options
At the moment I'm only using the Fireface 800 as a "pass through" firewire to spdif to my Stello DAC. The Stello DAC only accepts 24/96 so that's what I'm limited to... I'm using the Stello as a DAC instead of the Fireface because the Stello sounds marginally better. Here's a link to a discussion about a Naim Audio DAC that's coming out that maybe is going for the extreme 384 rates or higher? but maybe not...
http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/naim-Audio-does-DXDPersonally, I'm putting my bets on a combination of PeterSt's XXHighEnd as a player and a DAC he is creating. The player is out, and with the latest version 9y-4 PeterSt has developed something he calls 'arc prediction' upsampling. At the moment it can take a 44.1 and upsample it to 176.4. The math he's developed for it is made to work best with a NonOverSampling DAC 24/192 (maybe higher?)... one that he is creating and a bunch of us are chomping at the bit to try. My Stello is an OS DAC, but still knocks my socks off with his arc prediction upsampling at 88.2.
