Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
76.72.17.112
Hello,
I am the new owner of a pair of ESL-63s. They have serial numbers in the 16xxx range, if that is any indication of age (I have read that this means they have "better" or "upgraded" power supplies, I think).
So far, I like them. I have never had a pair of electrostatics, everything works on them, and I really enjoy listening to them.
Question: I do not have any boxes/crates/etc for them, and I have to move them far away. I can pack them and ship them standing up in the back of a semi, or I can wrap them in furniture pads and put them sideways in the back of my car (as I go to and from my far away place frequently).
Which would you panel-speaker experts recommend for safe transport? I have had plenty of my stuff broken in the back of a semi moving from house to house, so I am nervous. I have no idea how "rugged" they are.
Thanks.
Follow Ups:
The speakers are quite rugged. Either way you propose will work fine.
If you have the room I generally recommend just laying them down on the front of the speakers.
Enjoy!
When I bought my bargain pair of 57s I was living in a small house and didn't have room to use them so I stored them in the loft for the future.
I wrapped them in a double layer of large bubble warp and then covered in cling film/saran wrap all over the outside to keep the dust out. In that condition they ended up being shipped stateside in a container with all our other belongings. The shippers may have added blankets, I can't remember, but they survived the journey intact and operable.
