Anyone able to recommend a less involved - i.e. more straightforward - source for someone interested in learning about room treatments?

In addition to Jim's book, you might want to check out Robert Harley's:

I haven't read it myself but I understand it's good on practical room treatment.
At the opposite extreme in terms of depth, The Master Handbook of Acoustics by F. Alton Everest.

I learned a lot from this site:

Pretty down to earth, and there are some helpful videos on there, too.
The "Get Better Sound" book is great. A lot of first hand, hard won info from the guy who wrote it.
It's a well written book on how to get the most out of your system. I have a copy, and although I haven't finished it yet I've found it to be very practical and useful.
Regards,
Steve

Just wanted to say thanks for putting up the link. I had the "free" version (31pgs) of this book that Jim Smith used to send out when he distributed Avantgarde Horns. I had forgotten it until I saw the link. Re-read it and ordered the full book last night... Jeff
