The fuse holders on my circa 1994 MG-20s require the signal to pass through riveted joints. These are not gas-tight, so sonic results of bypassing the holders (not just the fuses) depend on how corroded they are.
I waited several years to bypass the fuse holders, and the results were not subtle.
Follow Ups:
I bypassed my MMGs when they were just one yr old, just long enough to know that I never blow fuses even at the high volumes I listen to.
I think Magnepan really has to upgrade its connectors. It's a longstanding problem, I was always having contact problems with the pins that connected the panels of my Tympanis.

Huh? I don't think they make multi-panelled speakers any longer! You must have been living in different type of environs. I've owned three differnt model Tympanis (1C, IIIB, IVa) since the 70s and never had such a problem. Ditto for a friend way back then who I owned a Tympani IIIA (he moved over to the original big Apogee).
That's why I said "longstanding problem" -- I was referring to my 1-D's, which I bought slightly used in the early 80's. The jumpers that connected the panels were always getting crackly and intermittent, even when the speakers were new.
Maybe I moved the panels more than you did. Or maybe it was the air in New York. Either way, the connectors should have been gold plated, and weren't. IMO, there's no excuse for that on a product that costs more than twenty bucks.
