I suspect you're right about the lifetime of the Emotivas, they probably use cheap electrolytics. But if the basic design is reliable and I haven't seen anything that says it isn't, I'm thinking that just means that the caps will have to be replaced in a few years. Maybe the precision resistors, but that's true in any amp, they drift with time.

Keep in mind that Emotiva has a 5 years parts and labor warranty (transferable) where the only cost to the owner is shipping

  I didn't know that. In any event, the sort of capacitor degradation we're discussing usually takes longer than five years.

I think design and measurement may be to the point where this stuff may be limited by the quality of parts used.
Caps....you bet!
If you made a 'cost no object' rebuild project using hi grade parts, matched transistors and an oversized (within reason) transformer, I'll bet it'd kill.
I doubt you would damage the voicing, either.

    pretty ambitious and costly.
    Not to mention the parts bill, and labor.

      I'm remembering the huge capacitor bank I made for my Stereo 400 . . . pretty much the last project of that sort I did, because for some reason people started paying me to do my hobby, LOL.
