Are There Ceramic Fuse Alternatives to HiFi Tuning for Maggie 3.6 ...

1- ... that give the same level of performance but cost less?
2- Who are selling them?
3- Many posters have reported the improvement is somewhat subtle on Maggies, perhaps it's system-dependent, so I am wondering if it's better off to spend $200 (4 large fuses) upgrade elsewhere in the system to get a bigger bang for the bucks.

Many posters here recommend by-passing the fuses altogether but I am not ready to take that leap yet :-) My advanced thanks for everyone's input.

Saving money is one thing, but really...$40/fuse is too much? Hi Fi Tuning fuses (Gold) offer a level of refinement that is addictive once experienced. The apparent Maggie "Hot tweeter sound" is purified, smoothed and becomes more natural in it's presentation. Don't chince out...get the best and be done with it. Need more tips on how to sanely make your Maggies glow?? E-mail me direct.

I run fuseless so I can't comment on fuse types. However the problem is not so much with the fuses but the fuse holders which use steel to conduct the signal. I know you are not ready to lose the fuses just yet, but the mid-driver is pretty much bullet proof and the fuse can be safely by-passed. The tweeter is a bit more delicate and several inmates can testify that it is an excellent protector of the fuse rather than the other way around.
What I would recommend is getting a pigtail fuse (caution most pigtail fuses are slow-blow and you need to use a regular or fast-blow for any protection). You can then solder to the leads by-passing the fuse holder.

  Is disassembly required to get behind the fuse holder to solder?
  
  Is it better to replace the holders that are made with better materials, perhaps copper? Seems like this would allow boundless tweak possibilities with a variety of fuses.

    Yes, you will need to access the back of the panel but this just requires removing the four screws. You probably can look around for better fuse holders, I believe Littelfuse makes some with spring copper (a copper alloy) or beryllium copper alloy that would be better than spring steel.
