Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
72.74.91.142
Hello! I am hoping someone can help me figure out how to order speakers from Magnepan. After reading online reviews and the Magnepan website, I have the impression that one can order speakers directly from the factory. So I would like to do this. But I can't find an email address for the company -- any email address -- and the phone only goes to voicemail when I call their sales number on the website. So I'm hoping someone can tell me -- 1) is this a real company with real products (it certainly seems to be, judging from the volume of online reviews, but on the other hand, it's been a decade since I last came across any company that didn't have an email address), and 2) if so, how do I order their products from them? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks to all who responded. I was able to reach someone at Magnepan after a few tries, she was very nice, however she didn't know the answer to one or two questions so she referred me to someone else there, who hasn't yet responded to my voicemail.
Because of my day job, it's tough for me to call them during the hours when they are open. So I guess I'll try them intermittently, when I can, and see how it works out. Thanks again for all your helpful responses!
Hi and Welcome!
In addition to all the other spot-on reasons in this post:
I believe that Margaret from Magnepan has recently retired. Over the last two years she was the one who answered the phone the several times I called. She was friendly and quite knowledgeable, and is probably being sorely missed by Magnepan. They are a very friendly, small company and I hope they replace her with someone just as good. My advice is to keep trying- the effort is definitely worth it!
Damn! Magnepan's in deeper trouble than I realized. I think she's the one who kept everything together.
The only speaker that Magnepan encourages ordering direct from them is the MMG. Copy/paste from the MMG page on their website...
"Because of this success and the economy that comes from manufacturing large numbers of speakers, the Magneplanar MMG at $599 pair is affordable and available to everyone.
Order directly from Magnepan by calling 1-800-474-1646.
Other larger, more expensive models are available through a small nationwide network of specialty audio dealers.
We know you may have doubts about an entirely new way of reproducing sound.
If you are like most of us, a completely new idea will intrigue you as well as raise questions ... how can a speaker only 3/4 inch thick possibly work ... is there a downside to this approach?
To answer these questions and many more, the Magnepan 60 day satisfaction guarantee is a chance for you to experience ... first hand... what this new technology can do for your audio/video system ... in your home ... at your leisure.
If you want to climb to an even higher level of performance, you can move up to a better model at a Magneplanar dealer in your area for up to a year.
Depending on the model you purchase, you can receive up to full credit from Magnepan for your MMGs."
This covers your question. The MMG, being smaller and easier to mail, is a way they can introduce people to their speakers. Of course they have reasons to support their dealer network as well. You have to remember that if these people cannot make a living at this then they will cease to be a business at some point.
In search of musical bliss...
They're a manufacturer, they sell most of their products through dealers rather than directly to the public. The exceptions being replacement parts and some of their smallest speakers, e.g., the MMG and MMG-W. If you want to order those, or you have a question about their products, you can call, in my experience they're very nice people to talk to.
No public email, I suspect they're trying to avoid people with lots of weird questions like us.
Magnepan is a small company.
If they had a public e-mail presence, it would take 5 or 6 man hours to deal with what would probably be 100s per day.
They are busy working on day-2-day stuff and Tomorrows Maggie.
Too much is never enough
You now know that Magnepan is one funky-querky company. They do not have email - I know, that is strange. No online ordering process either that I'm aware of, which is bizarre... Having to leave your name via voicemail doesn't create much confidence with the potential customer (witness your questions).. Calling them is the only way that I know of to order products. Have you tried both the 800# and the local number? Non-800# is 651-426-1645
You're in Boston? Should be a few dealers there. Magnepan only sells a few select models direct (MMG and smaller).

Magnepan has numerous dealers over North America; why don't you try a dealer near your location that way you can audition different models and see for yourself which you prefer.
Magnepan dealer Natural Sound Inc in Framingham, Massachusetts has a web site; http://www.natural-sound.com/
