Has anyone had positive experiences with certain power conditioning systems for use with Magnepan-based systems? I've heard great things about the Shunyata Hydra series. I currently own a RGPC 400s, and I'm not yet sure if I like the sound.

I have had good experience with the Equi=Tech 2Q with my Maggie 3.6 setup. The unit is a passive unit and is built like a tank.
This unit looks really nice. I'm very intrigued by balanced power units (BPT and Equi=Tech). I'd love to save up for one of these, as my AC is horrifically bad. I snagged a Hydra 4 for $700, and even though they supposedly work wonders, there's really not much to them (http://www.10audio.com/diy_power_conditioner.htm).
Alas.. upgrade path, upgrade path.
Neuro,
It is interesting that the folks at Equi=Tech caused an ammendment to happen to the national electric code to define "Technical Power", a.k.a. balanced power. If you have some time, read their site to follow the links to the ammendments to the National Electric Code. This indicated to me there was something a little more to it than marketing hype. They do not burn up any current to speak of like other units.
As for performance, I snuck a loaner unit into my rack without the better half knowing I had even left the house. When she came home, she walked past the 2-channel room and stopped dead in her tracks and asked, "What did you do the the stereo?". I asked her why and she responded it sounded better. I asked "better how"? She responded clearer. I asked "clearer where"? She responded clearer all over. This was my double blind test confirming my initial experience, so I called my dealer and told them they were not getting their loaner back.
I first thought I would have a quieter noise floor like getting rid of 60Hz line noise, but could not imagine much else. To my surprise, it did much more than that in my venue. It made the entire frequency range clearer. Cymbals, snare drums, rasps, etc. had much more distinction, not just a blacker, black background.
The best part about it is that the better half didn't pitch a fit on this upgrade. FWIW, I tried it on my home theater room and TV, but didn't notice any improvements, but my home theater gear is junk compared to my 2-channel rig.

given the many variables that constitute RF interference, I recommend using power conditioning for any decent system, much less those using high rez speakers such as Maggies. I find the vintage garage double Advent system delivers more subtle detail due to a blacker background using a conditioner on the sources and an aftermarket power cord on the power amp.

Tweaked Maggies are capable of revealing much or all of the nastiness caused by RF noise, some of which comes in to your system on the AC and AC safety-earth wiring.
Treating the AC to your audio system components helps this part of the noise problem.
Making the system less susceptible to noise is a second useful approach.
Reducing the noise from non-audio appliances is a third approach.
All three approaches are complementary. Since RF noise comes from multiple sources and is conveyed by different paths, it is more effective to make incremental improvements in all three areas than it is to find a perfect solution in one of them.
not sure how a power conditioner effects a loudspeaker... Amps, and other electronics, certainly can be helped, but loudspeakers? Another thing - since my main amps are all using balanced bridged topology - the loudspeaker never even sees ground potential!
PS Audio P300- Recommmended.. most noticeable improvement is less noise or a quieter backround ....which gives the presentation a window that seems very clear and concise. Take the P300 out of the system and it's less lifelike and natural..ie more noise.
If you have dirty AC, one is a must IMHO.

I know I became a huge fan of passive power conditioning & separate power conditioners for the amplifier(s). With that said, I have yet to hear the PS Audio stuff.
In regards to RGPC stuff, I haven’t thought of it since I saw this coil .

Lord knows how much that thing weighs. Does it come with a forklift?
I'm guess-timating (3ft dia) a mere 1½ tons. I *think* you're supposed to roll it into position. UPS delivery?

I got the impression that the big one was just a mock up, perhaps made of a hollow plastic form and hose and such. Else why put all the effort into transporting such a large and heavy "trade show mockup" all over? Nevermind my doubts that the display table/counter would hold it.
Still, I can't help but entertain the notion of using two or three of those in place of some pole pigs.

My god, that guy could not interview to save his life. Heck, to sell the giant one, they just need to put it in a shiny box and market it as "blacker backgrounds and improved dynamics" and audiophiles will buy them in spades.. ;)
