My friends wife and their kids spent a month in EU on vacations. She is, you guessed a maintenance lady and he obviously is a handyman/ construction warrior.
Customs officer was mostly interested who paid for the vacation. Obviously lower/ middle class US folk can't afford more than a week off time to rest before banks come to take their house and a car. All those Russian jokes come to mind.

a European vacation is not all that expensive if you have lodging available for most of the time there and some AirBnB's have good long term rates.

I guess the Proles also want to enjoy their life a little. Why not?

  I'm not trying. I'm making a point :) Why would customs officer ask a lady traveling with two teenage kids who paid for vacations?
