Tim,
The Valencias are nice but shipping will be expensive from California. With 40 watts you have a large number of speakers to choose from and I would skip the Tektons with that much power. How big is your room? How loud do you want to listen? Kilpsch speakers would be worth a look too.

Follow Ups:
such as Klipsch, if he likes them, is that there are listening opportunities for that speaker. More so than other high effeciency brands. And if he buys a pair he has the option to go flea power later.
Yes, and it's a helluva lot easier than cobbling something together.
It seems to me you do it for the love of doing it. Your first project might be good but you have to plan on doing it again, and again, and again to get to the point where you can build something great. For those who don't mind it, or do love it, that is fantastic. I will build amps from kits (because someone else figured out the design) and maybe do some cap rolling and such, but that is about as far as I go.
I'm with you. I'd rather listen to music and I have no building talent.
Whats so difficult to DIY about a full range
driver in an open baffle? So what, you gotta
cut a hole and clip on two wires???? Oh pity
the suffering of the idle rich!!! Have the kid
who mows your lawn do it.
Maybe my time is more limited than my money and maybe, since you don't have any idea, I think open baffle sucks compared to Klipsch. Maybe I do maybe I don't but your post makes assumptions that you have no clue about. Maybe I had a bad experience with power tools (which would actually be true) that has left me emotinally scared for life (which wouldn't, but what do you know). Whatever. I am not interested in open baffle or single driver in the end and crossover designs are serious business. I will leave the serious work to the electronic experts who have the time and inclination. I like to tinker but I love to listen to music plus I have other hobbies that take up my time. My priorities are different than yours so please, shut up.
If an open baffle listening test of some excellent
full range drivers that don't need crossovers is
waaaay too much DIY, its gonna scar you for life.
I wouldn't want to make you go through all that.
Much better just throw money at a brand name and
pretend that owning one makes you an expert.
Unfortunately, or as expected, it addressed none of what I said. I didn't say open baffle was too much DIY, I said as far as you know I don't like them and have no interest. The speakers that I find involving are not easily done at home, period. I have neither the time, nor the interest, nor the money to constantly experiment. Great that you do. Nasty that it somehow makes you feel superior. But the world is full of assholes looking for someone to belittle to make themselves feel better. Maybe if you had a life outside of audio you wouldn't feel the need? I assume you don't since you seem to have all the time in the world to build and tweak speakers that are world beaters and still write pointless posts.
But as you say "have the kid who mows your lawn do it." It is good to know I can give you a call if I decide to go that route. Thanks!
If you are throwing money, anytime...
