Very coincidental that you post this now, as I am assessing my new Bottlehead Smack headphone amp with my Denons, 2000 and 7000. I love my 7000's but it was not immediately easy. It seems that the mids and highs take a while to catch up with the excellent bass. After 50 hours, maybe more, they are very well-balanced, comfortable, and very good! With tubed amplification they reveal drums very accurately, and quite well thru my
AVA preamp jack, an op-amp. I also use a HiFiMan EF5 amp, quite powerful and a little darker because the bass is stronger.
Have you read everything about the 7000's on head-fi?
If you can get them for around $700 USD or less they are a very good value.

What are you driving your phones with? The 7000's provide an elegant concert experience, but I have not heard them produce louder complex music as well as my HiFiMan HE-500's. These are harder to drive and much heavier,
but more revealing on powerful music... (I am listening to the Gladiator soundtrack, truly palpable).
I have a Burson HA-160, very happy with what it does for the AKGK702 phones I have now.
You will probably enjoy a lot!
