I am not a bass head by any stretch but do enjoy some bass to be sure. One common complaint I have with phones is that there is never enough bass. On the main rig I have a headphone amp with a couple of different bass options and also a soundstage expander that also has a bass boost. And I have the bass boost filters in my AKGn5005.
I dig the bass on that system.
When I go to the bed system there is no bass boost and it bugs me. I switched out my phones there to the AKG N5005 with the bass boost filters applied and it helps but am looking at an eq for the bass boost.
Here are the eqs I am looking at...omg I NEVER thought I would write something like that!
dbx 231s
Schiit Lokius (I need balanced)
Douk audio T8PRO
Any thoughts or experience appreciated.

Well, you could always try adding a subwoofer. I've thought about doing that, but I haven't tried it yet.
The problem with headphone bass is that you can't feel it. It's often quite strong, but only in your ears. Therefore, I've often thought it might be very helpful to add a subwoofer so you could feel the bass as well as hear it. However, I haven't gotten around to trying that yet. ;-)
Happy listening!
Disagree. Especially that I agree with most cans I have heard. Nothing visceral, which I dearly miss with the big rig. Got a new pair of Soundthink cans. Bass is truly there, soundstage is very good, comfortable fit, wide bandwidth. Worth checking out.
Cheap to boot.
Actually, I guess I'm also happy with the bass response of all my best sounding headphones and earphones. That's probably why I've never tried adding a subwoofer. I own two Rythmik Servo Subs, and I use one with my Mini Maggie speakers. However, I'm perfectly happy with the bass response from my STAX SR-X9000 electrostatics as well as my FiiO FT5 Planar Magnetic headphones. I'm happy with the bass response from my best IEM earphones, too.
I just bought some new FiiO FD15 IEM earphones , and they also seem to have good bass response. Their 13.8-mm dynamic diaphragm is probably responsible for their nice bass response. They're also not too expensive at only $150.
I guess I'm a headphone enthusiast. Here's a list of all the headphones and earphones I currently own:
STAX SR-X9000 electrostatic headphones
STAX SR-007 Mk2 electrostatic headphones
Koss ESP/950 electrostatic headphones
Grado HP-1 dynamic headphones
FiiO FT3 dynamic headphones
FiiO FT5 planar magnetic headphones
FiiO FDX IEM earphones
FiiO FD7 IEM earphones
FiiO FD5 IEM earphones
FiiO FD15 IEM earphones
FiiO F9 IEM earphones
FiiO EM5 earphones
FiiO EH3 NC Bluetooth dynamic headphones
FiiO FW5 Bluetooth IEM earphones
That's all I can remember at the moment. ;-)
Happy listening!

If you get too used to that butt-shakin' feeling, could live musical events might begin to feel "wrong" to you somehow ?Understanding the implications, you can be sure if you truly do want to enact such a transformation. Or not.
So before moving forward with the butt shaker, take pause.

Its a good point but if I am at a live musical event, yes something is wrong. They almost always sound like crap or if its not amplified, its music I really don't care about anyhow...

The bass was just that good. Some tracks it wasn't ideal but on others it was awesome. So glad I don't have to buy an eq. Not saying I will not eventually but money is tight till I get my certs and a new job will just enjoy with the bbe

. You guys sparked an idea. I have a BBE sonic maximizer in both systems. Those things rock but I recall the low contour adding some distortion if turned much past 12. BUT on that system there is a bass boost after the BBE in the headphone amp. In the system I was looking to add an eq, the headphone amp has no boost. So I turned the BBE past 12 and pegged it. While not an eq it def added bass and I think I can be happy with the results. Had to adjust it down a bit on some tracks. Its really cool what it did with the bass.
So thanks for saving me dough!!

Hey DR,
Glad that things worked out for you! Looking at your original post, I thought you abandoned the MAX...-.Yikes!!
I keep the MAX about 1 o'clock for most tunes and no problem.
Hey Man you still around. I thought you were a ghost now. Anyhow I got tripped up when you wrote MAX. LOL what a duh moment.
Its working well.

I have an original Schiit Loki in my Schiit stack. It is great for a little bass boost for my Sundara Closed Back cans.
Gsquared
I use a Numark myself. EQ is necessary for headphone listening.
