I recently bought some new STAX headphones and they are definitely exceptional headphones. I owned STAX Lambda Pro headphones many years ago and I've always wanted another pair. Consequently, I decided to splurge.
STAX offers a bundle containing the SR-007mk2 headphones with the SRM-700T driver unit at a 9.9% discount. Separately, the SR-007mk2 headphones cost $2205 and the SRM-700T driver unit costs $3400, but bundled together, they cost just $5050. Anyway, I decided to buy them just for fun and I couldn't be happier. These headphones sound absolutely amazing.
I can't imagine better sounding headphones, but you know how it goes with high-end audio. There's always something better out there! At any rate, there's always something more expensive! :-)
Follow Ups:
Congratulations! Always had a soft spot for Stax cans myself.
I used to own a pair of Stax SR-007's and a KGSSHV amp from Mjolnir Audio. Very musical setup. I did sell them to fund my current loudspeaker setup. So, got of the headphone hobby for awhile.
Recently got back into the hobby, using a Chord Hugo TT and a Ultrasone Edition 15 set of cans. For me, the setup sounds good enough such that I don't feel the need to get back into Stax again.
Enjoy the ride. The Stax phones are very special. Check out Mjolnir Audio for more details on Stax cans. He is the head of the Stax Mafia. :-)

There's no question my new STAX headphones are the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. However, I still prefer speakers to headphones. I bought a pair of Mini Maggie speakers a few months ago and they really sound good. I'm sold on STAX headphones and I'm sold on Magnepan dipole speakers.
Happy listening!

I also prefer listening to speakers over headphones. Current setup has ATC SCM 40 V2 with SVS PC 4000 sub, which is very musical.
There are some recordings where a excellent headphone setup can be extremely enjoyable. I've been using a headphone setup with Chord TT DAC/Headphone setup with Ultrasone Edition 15 Veritas cans. Great tonal balance and clarity with this setup. My issue with headphone setups have been too many require EQ to sound right. It's not easy to get the EQ right without adversely impacting the overall sound adversely. The Chord/Ultrasone setup doesn't need EQ to sound right.
Although I have always loved Stax cans, the Stax amps don't drive the cans optimally. To get the most out of the Stax cans, headphone amps such as the KGSSHV Carbon or Blue Hawaii is needed. Theat costs $$$.

There's always better headphones and/or a better headphone amp. However, I'm quite pleased with my new STAX system. I don't think it needs a different tonal balance or any bass boost. It sounds perfect to me. Perhaps it was designed for my particular ears. ;-)
Anyway, I'm not prepared to spend anymore money on headphones. I'm perfectly satisfied with the sound of my new STAX system. If I spend more money, it will be for larger Magnepan speakers. However, I probably don't even need to do that. I'm very happy with my Mini Maggie speakers set up in an ultra near-field listening configuration. Imaging is holographic and tonal balance sounds just fine to me.
I'm 75 years old and I think this might be my final system. All I want to do now is listen to music.

Been using the SR-5 cans for nearly fifteen years. Had the electrets back in the 1970s, have a set of Lambda Pro (SR-207) which are just...freaking...incredible but unfortunately the left transducers is gonzo.
Stax made me a headphone fan.
Oh, yeah--I power them with an SRM-1/Mk 2 amp.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

I had some Lambda Pro headphones in 1985 to 1991. For some reason they kind of crapped out in 1991 and I got rid of them. I've always wanted another pair, so I just decided to splurge and buy some. These new STAX headphones are truly super. I can't imagine any headphones sounding better, but perhaps there are. Anyway, I'm enjoying them tonight.
Happy listening!

This post prompted me to dig out my kse1200 electrostatic earbuds. Was going to send them to service but life happened and I missed the warranty period. Anyhow, I got them working and glad I did. That electrostatic sound is addicting and with some bass boost omg these have bass.
Thanks

In order to piss on my wheaties, you have to own those headphones.
Do you own them?
Man!! Had them in the cart but out of kindness decided not to order...

John -
I've been a STAX fan for almost five years. I own SR-407 & 507 earspeakers & two energizers, one with 6CA7 tubes. I live in an apartment & try to be a good neighbor, so I exclusively use the stats - no speakers for me.
Their speed & transparency are amazing. Music just "happens." Very natural-sounding. I have a copy of DSOTM on vinyl that I have yet to clean. I can't wait to hear "Money" & "Time" through either pair.
Most of the STAX pairs are not high on sex appeal. They look goofy, although nothing like Jecklin Floats. Yours look like "normal" headphones. I'd love a pair of L700s, but finances absolutely prohibit that purchase, for now. I think HiFiMan makes Jade II phones, which I'd like to try, along with Koss ESP-950s, however, I understand that they can squeal. They also require an adaptor plug for use with a STAX energizers.
eBay is your friend to a certain degree, but one has to be very careful when buying energizers. There are a lot of great deals from Japanese sellers, but the line voltage there is 100V. I've bought three pairs of earspeakers & two energizers from US sellers with no
problems.
Enjoy your new phones!

A great looking set up. CongratulationsI have not heard Stax headphones since I was a teen.

They're hard to find. STAX implements tight control. However, I'm getting old and I wanted to listen to them again so I bought a pair. Wow! They sound amazing. When you get old and want to hear them again, buy a pair! You'll be impressed. I was! I still am! :-)
Happy listening!

What tubes do they use? My main energizer uses 6CA7.

My SRM-700T uses 6SN7 tubes.
I was impressed back then. My son thinks I am already old.
