I had those Sure's on audition, but found that my Grado 10E's danced better to my ears with my Sony digital player. Those Sures are really good.
Follow Ups:
Yeah, I can see that. I use the Shures off a desktop amp and can see where other buds would be better with a portable perhaps. Grado never entered my mind. There headphones always seem to get mediocre reviews so it wasn't on the radar. Glad you dig em. I have a few other buds and the for me its the bass. The Shures can hang basswise which I find important. Thanks for mentioning the Grados though. I have some gift cards that might make it easy to get a pair. But man I have like 10 pairs of earbuds alone, so its like whats the point.

Since you have so many earbuds, I'm wondering if you've tried FiiO FD5 and/or FD7 earbuds. I have both of these and I really like them. Unfortunately, I haven't heard the Shure SE846 earbuds. I own Grado HP-1 and RS-2 headphones as well as Koss ESP/950 electrostatic headphones and I like my FiiO FD5 and FD7 earbuds better.
Happy listening!

THat is high praise man. Havent tried the FiiO. Doubtful I will buy another iem. have 6 IIRC. probably more. The Shures are a draw because of their pro history. Normally pro stuff is too neutral, but my headphone rig is processed and a neutral headphone is a better match than the audiophile offerings. I can tune the Shures if I want...I have the neutral filter and it seems like a pain to change so I wont mess with the 2 other filters. Also I have the custom eartips that I had made for the KSE1200 which work on the KSE846. And the warranty is strong with them.
So I am done with this and just listening now. OMG the shures just disappear. Its amazing. Check them out.

Do the Shure SE846 IEM earphones have four balanced armature drivers? FiiO used to make IEM earphones with multiple balanced armature drivers and I own several of them. I was very impressed with them at first and then FiiO came out with a single driver IEM earphone design and I was surprised at the switch. However, when I bought the $300 FiiO FD5 single dynamic driver earphone I was even more surprised that they sounded noticeably better than FiiO's multiple balanced armature models. Next, FiiO came out with the FD7 earphones incorporating a single pure beryllium driver and I bought them immediately. They were even better than the FD5 earphones but they were also more expensive at $600 from Amazon.
Next, FiiO brought out their flagship model, the FiiO FDX, also with a single pure beryllium dynamic driver. They were actually identical to the FD7 except they were gold plated and came with a special cable made from gold, silver, and copper, and they cost $900, I was told. When they appeared on Amazon they were selling for $700. I didn't buy them since they appeared to be identical to the FD7 earphones except for the cable. I simply bought the cable for $100 and put it on my FD7. It did make a slight improvement.
Now, the FiiO FDX model earphones are on sale through Amazon for just under $500, so I bought a pair. These FDX earphones are beautiful and they sound better than any earphone or headphone I've ever heard. Unfortunately, I've never heard the Shure SE846, but from my experience with FiiO's multiple balanced armature earphones, I now believe that single dynamic driver earphones sound the best and I don't really want to spend $799 to find out how the Shure SE846 earphones sound. The FDX earphones sound so much better than any other earphones or headphones I've ever heard that I'm completely happy with them.
Merry Christmas!

I quit buying earbuds after the FiiO FD5 and FD7. These are the only ones I listen to now. The FD5 was $300 and the FD7 was $600. However, the FD7 is only very slightly better than the FD5. I would love to hear the top Stax headphones for comparison. I'm sure Stax would sound better, but the FiiO FD5 and FD7 are both so good that I don't really feel the need for anything better.
I actually prefer to listen to speakers and I have some excellent speakers, too. ;-)
Happy listening!

are they audiophile or neutral pro type sound?

I don't know. They just sound real and natural to me.
