I agree, the bass in the AT is light ...and the midrange seems odd. If they were speakers I'd say the mids were recessed.
I can get the Denon's cheap from a buddy in the biz ...cheap enough that I could probably get my money back out of them if I didn't like them. So, it would be a no/low risk trial.
The ATs aren't bad ...but I much prefer my speakers. From my days in retail, I know phones can sound better than what I am hearing.

Follow Ups:
AT is not bass shy, au contraire, much stronger and deeper bass compared to Grado SR 225 I had. But that is driven by Nytech CA252 that takes the power amp output for headphones.
If you are experiencing light bass, I would say headphones are not the problem.
...as they were still breaking in.
The rest was cured with a pair of NOS RFT 12AU7 tubes for my amp.
All is well.

Dean if you can get them I think you will be happy with them. Another option is the Beyer 880 600 OHMS and are sold for 229.00 most times another excellent headphone that is open and the 600 ohm version I had was great not a T1 but for the money both the D2000 and 880 are hard to beat. The D2000 is a fun can with great bass and strong mids a little receccesed but a nice phone. None are perfecrt but the closest I have heard to that are my T1
...the NOS RFT 12AU7 tubes I bought to replace the J&J tubes in my amp arrived on Saturday and I got to listen to them for six hours ...before the storm knocked out the power (and it will be out for 7 to 10 days!).
These tubes are a game changer.
The ATs are still light in the bass (a bit better though), but the mids are cohesive now, no longer recessed. Major improvement ...hard to believe they are the same phones. Everything is a bit less laid back and is punchier. Better extension up top too, but still smooth.
Will report back when I get 20+ hours on them.

RFT are great tubes I have a stash also. What amp are you using them in? Dean JJ have reliability issues and if you can use 12AT7 try the Mullard Kevin Deal has as thats my preference in my Taboo amp.
Looking forward to the power coming back so I can listen more ...and warm up! it was 42 degrees in the house this morning!
As far as I know I can only use 12AU7 tubes.
I had posted over on the Tubes forum about this a while ago and the consensus was to try some RFTs. I found a NOS, matched pair for what I thought was very cheap ($35, shipped). So far, so good.
Picture is before I changed tubes.

sometimes they can be swapped. My taboo can use 12AU&,12AT7 and 12AX7 . Kind of cool as I can really get way different sound. Another thought if you like closed can go for the D200 other option also are the Shure SRH 840 which can be had for under 150.00 a great closed can with good isolation and will play well on hybrid amplifiers. The D2000 and I wou,lld still try the 600 ohm can as Amazon has 30 day policy as most dealers do but the 250 OHM 880 and Sennheiser HD600 and 650 are also options but more money. But if you can score a D200 cheap why not. JR Music if you haggle sometimes lets them go for 200.00 pair anything lower is a major score.
I'm presently using the Denons through the headphone jack on my Marantz AV-7005 and I'm fairly impressed with them. Nice smooth full bass with sparkly highs. The do fit my large head a bit loosely but not in a bad way and doesn't seem to affect the sound at all. I had Shure 440's before and the Denons are a definite step up.
Regards, Sam
