Anyone find a positive difference using Kimber cables for headphone use?
When I bought my used Sony headphones (Z1R), they came with both OEM and the Sony upgrade Kimber wire, MUC-B30UM1 headphone cables.
I put the Kimber into the case and used the OEM ones. Headphones sounded good. Sound more centered between the ears, than the Audio Technica AD-2000X open back. The AT focus is a tad wider than your ears. The AT has incredible clarity. Comparatively, the Sony seems a bit recessed, in terms of higher frequency clarity. The Sony are noticeably less efficient than the Audio Technica.
Tried the Kimber wires today. What a crazy difference! Makes the Sony sound more like openness of the 2000X. I would never have guessed the wires would make this much difference. And the efficiency is better with the Kimber wires. Like almost 10 points, on my Sound Blaster scale. Almost as efficient as the AT. Crazy!
Will try the combo some more, to see if this is just a momentary "wow" factor.
Seemed I got a very good deal for the phones and wires.

Not familiar with the headphones but that cable costs a fortune.
What did you pay for both used?

I got the pair, including all OEM hardware and packaging for $848. I bought them at the time Tyll's Inner Fidelity's review (very negative) was making the rounds on audio boards. So, this review may have lead a lot of owners to dump the phones. Glad I took the chance, as the cost of used ones has recently gone up.I really don't know, but maybe he got a defective set of phones? Though, Sony QA is usually high. Nevertheless, I've had a similar experience as Z-Review. There are no peaks or uneven response, as Tyll reported. In fact, smooth, even response are these headphones forte. They don't shout at you. They don't accentuate the bass or highs. As neutral a tone, as I've heard in any phone. With the Kimber cables, this set's clarity and separation is even better.
Only the size and close-back feature is a drawback, esp on hot days. At least, compared to the Audio Technica AD-2000X --- which are open-back and super lightweight. The AT are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. With superb audio.
Anyhow, I included both Tyll's (Inner Fidelity) and Z-Review's YT links.

I thought about used headphones before I bought a new set of AQ Night Owl. I couldn't get past the idea of someone's sweaty ears on the ear ups and dandruff on the headband. I don't care how much they are cleaned, they would never be clean enough for me.
I feel the same way about used remotes after seeing someone scratching their "junk" with them. But hey, that's just me.

That would be a difficult conversation with the wife, trying to explain how I got the clap from a remote control. "Sure you did ...-"Dave

Hey! The ad said, "only used by a clean, little old lady every Sunday. Before going to Church."
I believed it. 8^)
I've bought most of my headphones, over $150, used off Ebay or some such used online store. If the ad says clean, usually is. Of course, I clean them, when they arrive. Besides, I have my own cooties.
It's the only way for me to buy these $$$ phones. Mark-up is high, for higher end cans. So, even one week old headphones have usually lost a lot of value.
