I would only recommend with a headphone amplifier.
In any case whatever you choose, the limitations of the output from the headphone socket on the PC will become more apparent the better the headphones are. I would recommend a small USB DAC such as the AQ Dragonfly black or red (there are others at not too great a cost). You should hear why as soon as you plug it in!
Follow Ups:
The sound card was not cheap. A good serious PSU helps, too.The sound at home is at least good as it was in the editing studio at ArtSound FM, with bigger B&W monitors, and largish power amps.
And a bit more revealing. It will get better, soon.
I looked at the specs for both 'phones and the ATs are more sensitive, so you are likely right about the 600s!
I hope to get back to recording for ArtSound and IF I do i should be able to send you files of the Australian Haydn Ensemble. Try youtube for now!?

" The sound card was not cheap". Ah, that was the bit that you didn't let on about. After all you said" It will be nice to have decent sound off the Desktop PC." with the implication that your existing PC sound was as I would expect it to be.
Still, must check the Australian Haydn Ensemble. Any group naming themselves after Haydn is off to a good start IMO. I hope there isn't another hidden aspect like they turn out to be a death metal band :-)
And all the women are BABEs!!! Click below!
It's a REALTEK sound-card, and I am happy with it. It can take up to 24/192 samples. And I am 67!! ;-)
Once I have the Foster Subs (or just one) and the Yamaha MS20s' pooged and matched so that they blend right, I will need some basic editing SW.
That is IF I ever get back into recording live concerts, for Artsound / independently.
The AHE were the first lot I did that for, and one recording was used by them to get ABC to record them and issue CDs.
We first met them at their first concert tour here in Canberra in the oldest church in the district - St John's, Reid. I'd won two free tickets and we had to turn up early so I was able to meet and go wowww! Patricia did comment, to them all, that I was susceptible and not to take me too seriously.
It was summer and thunder-stormy, so they had to re-tune between movements!!!

The first concert of theirs that I recorded, was at the Wesley Centre.

At a later date I was allowed to use the centres own mike array and monitor them upstairs in the monitoring suite. That was run by the chap who'd been the initial engineer for Llewellyn Hall and the CSOfMusic. Michael Grafton Greene.

He was a very special mentor and influence for me. His widow Colleen is a dear friend to both myself and Patricia!
