I like the Nighthawks somewhat better. I use the Nightowls mostly for travel or other times when I need absolute quiet. The Nighthawks have a more open and airy sound. If I had to choose one either would be fine, but would go Nighthawk. The Nightowls are slightly more comfortable.

Again, thanks!! I love the openness of my HiFi Man cans, but also love the warmth of the SH580's. Looks like the Nighthawks might be a good compromise, but with better isolation. I should probably order a pair from Audio Advisor, break them in, and if the isolation isn't enough return them for a pair of Nightowls.

Be aware that the Nighthawks require quite a long break-in. My local dealer (of fine audio products) runs them in for 200 hrs before they sell all of the AQ headphones.

The Nighthawks have come in. Breaking them in now. First impression - they sound more natural than my HD580s or HE400S cans. The HE400S are a bit more open right now.
Do you know what changes take place during breakin?
Al
I would say smoothness number 1. Because they have dynamic drivers, it just takes some time to loosen them up. All aspects should be better. Coherence, speed, richness, and bass.

Yeah, I've read that. My cables (Morrow) also require a long break in, so I would just put my CD player on repeat and let them go for 5 or 6 days.
