Hi NuWave, I'm curious to know what make/model headphone amplifier you use with the AKG K240 headphones, and how you came to find the particular make/model does not provide a neutral, meaty sound. My guess is that you mean an uncolored, linear response with a full-bodied tonality. TIA
Follow Ups:
I have a Creek headphone amp that I use on occasion. I run my headphones out of my Marantz cd player and out of my Ipad and various ipods. I just picked up a Peachtree Audio Shift which works with the ipad, but not with the ipods. I'm looking for a neutral sound, maybe even tilted towards bass, but NO accent on the higher frequencies. Because of my hearing, I want things to sound soft and non-aggressive. So many headphones I looked at, including some Beyerdynamics, just seem forward to me. Just got some Momentum 2.0 from amazon that i'm trying out. those might fit the bill. The K240 are good but not great, and I wanted something in addition to those that are closed and will block out sound if I wear them outside.
I expect the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 will provide what you seek, especially if you use a HQ headphone amplifier. Even a humble pair of Sennheiser HD 419 respond very well to a basic battery-powered Topping NX1 portable headphone amplifier when plugged-into the headphone jack of an iMac computer. You might consider the Topping NX1 or similar for use with your portable iPod and iPad devices.
