I've seen several comparisons with these and the EL-8, and the Audeze came out on top. I figured if I didn't like the pricier planar model, I probably wouldn't like the one below it. Would still like to hear them but I don't want to keep returning headphones with internet purchases.
Follow Ups:
To be fair, the Audeze are double the price of the Oppo PM-3 (at least where I live, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect them to be better.
I bought my PM-3s a month or two ago and I'm really enjoying them... Easy to listen to and comfortable... I had a specific need for closed phones, because the audio gear shares the same room as the TV and I cannot stomach half of the guff that my better half watches, so closed headphones are a godsend.
On a related note, I've just ordered a new headphone amp (Schiit Lyr 2)but, unfortunately, my local distributor is out of stock until late August...

Well, the distributor got stock of the Lyr 2 sooner than anticipated and I've been giving it a listen for the last two nights... A definite step up over the version one Asgard.
There seems to be a lot more space (air?) and detail, while generally sounding a lot more relaxed... Nice :-)
Now, all I have to do, is remember to switch it off after each listening session, to save the tubes...
Cheers

I am sure you will like the Lyr2. Had the Lyr 1 and it was very good. You will never lack for power. Go to Ebay and get a matched pair of 6H23ps Reflector around 1975 and be happy. Siemmens CCas are good too, but not cheap.
I bought my Oppo PM-3s for isolation like you, but also because you can drive them with an iPod or cell phone. I have a Sony Walkman digital HiRez player that I mate with an Oppo HA-2 SE and use my PM-3s. Good tunes
