In Reply to: RE: Yeah, and they ain't that great for having in my ears for 8 hours a day... posted by Ivan303 on June 29, 2013 at 19:43:37
I have the HF2 which I believe is very comparable to the hf3 and its like we are talking about totally different headphones. I did NOT find them very comfortable with the stock tips but with the custom molds I could wear them all day. I've had several 30+ hour plane rides recently and I pretty much kept the buds in my ears even if I wasn't listening to music, I used them just to attenuate the ambient noise. I was never fatigued and they never got uncomfortable
I've owned
-Sennheiser HD600
-JVC FX700
-Grado SR60
-Atrio M8
-Etymotic HF2
I don't like the etyomotics as much as the JVCs but better than everything else. To be fair though, the Sennheisers are very arguably the better headphone, they just never grabbed me. I recognize it was a personal taste thing.
To each his own I suppose. I'm just surprised to hear you think so little of the hf3s. You and I must have very different taste in headphones.

The Etymotic are not even CLOSE, even with the custom ear molds, when it comes to SQ.
Certainly better than stock Apple earbuds but that's about it.
JMHO and YMMV and all that.

on the way, I should get them next week. I am very excited. I hear they are similar to the sennheiser hd600s which is encouraging and troubling at the same time. The sennis had everything going for them, but somehow they just left me flat. They just didn't have the tonal color I like. Hopefully the dt880s will have all the great qualities of the hd600s with a touch more flesh and color to them. We'll see. If not, I am sure I will enjoy having them. This hobby is part "find the perfect set of headphones" and part "play with toys". Even if they aren't the perfect set for me I will enjoy playing with a new toy.

Not DT-700, of course.
Hope you like them, do report back your findings.
The DT-770 do have a bit more 'snap, crackle and pop' and a bit more bass than the HD-600.
The make 320kbps MP-3 sound 'exciting' directly from the output of the MacBook Air and even better with a USB powered DAC.
But the have no in line mic so when I'm working every time I get a call on SKYPE, I have to remember to swap headphones. :-(
