After doing research here and at HeadFi etc. I ordered my new headphone system. I have a Channel Island headphone amp in my Cary/ Merlin/Rega stereo system. Wife bitches when i turn up the volume a bit, but I don't use the main system for headphones much..
Just got a new Lazyboy power recliner for my listening/reading chair and decided to put a headphone system beside it. I have an OPPO 983H --worlds best DVD player stored in a closet that I'm using as a transport. This morning I ordered a Schiit Lyr and Bifrost. I also bought an AKG 702 from Amazon. I already have Sennheiser 600s with Cardas cable. I have bunches of 6922 varients to roll the Lyr and seven different digital coax cables to try on the Bifrost plus various custom powercords and ICs. Should be a fun Springtime.
By the way, I almost went with a Burson Conductor, but decided it would be overkill for my 65 year old ears.
Follow Ups:
I had the 600s w/Cardas as well as the 702s. Eventually I had to sell one of them to finance the rest of my system and decided to let the 702s go, but it was a hard decision and there are days I regret it.

Is a critical part of any good headphone system.

Seems like a perfect match for a headphone system... and I am somewhat jealous.
Let us know how you like your set up. I do love the AKG 702's and these are now what I use most often at home. It took forever for the drivers to break-in; I'm glad I didn't give up on them.
My 702s should be here tues or Wed. I guess I use the heck out of them for at least 6 months before they sound right.
Nah, at 73, I like my WooAudio WA6 just fine. Hope you get enough bass out of those phones. :^)

Surely you jest!! BASS out of headphones?? I did not think there was such a thing. The Lyr will drive anything, so which headphones have real BASS?
All the planar magnetic headphones I've heard, HiFiMan HE-4 (I own), HE-5LE (a friend owns), HE-6 (heard at the recent Austin meet), Audez'e LCD-2 rev. 1 (I owned).
The iFI iCAN amp can probably make your cans have low bass, see url below.
