It seems like such a good idea, too. Not too hard not too soft. Unfortunately lead totally screws up the sound. Especially noticeable in bass performance. Lead stores energy whereas you really want energy to be *rapidly evacuated* not stored.

I recall speaker stands being filled with lead shot back in the early 90s. So you're saying that actually was a bad idea?

  Eggs ackley! Maoleshade recordings used a lot of lead to damp electronics during production, that's why a lot of those recordings, you can hear what lead did to the bass.
