My office system died a couple of weeks ago. I had an an used Aronov pre-amp that I brought in, but something is off with it. So I brought in an old AR SP9-Mk2 that I haven't used in 15 years. I plugged it in and instantly, I have music in my office again.

Similar situation on my desktop system. Schiit Lyr 3 stopped working. I may send for repair. In the interim, did what every true audiophile (foo) does. I purchased something else, in this case, a Topping DX3 Pro+. It just works and throws an expansive sound stage. I am still playing with various filters.

Did you do the variac thing , or just plug and play? I have a preamp that hasn't been powered on in a year, maybe 2? I'd like to see if it's still any good. Don't have a Variac or have a clue about using one either. Glad you have music again.
I didn't do the variac and had no issues (but had issues with the Aronov, so one out of two?). I always guessed that the variac was more important for tubed amps, less so for pre amps.
