  Way back in '74, as a student in Montreux (trumpet, audio, acoustics), virtuoso trumpet master Maurice Andre performed with the l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Lausanne, a short 25 mile train ride away. Tickets were about SFr 35 - about $10 US. I didn't go, 'cause I was a "poor" college student. Still kickin' myself.
  
  Ironically enough, my trumpet mentor at the time was Pierre Thibaud, who played 2nd trumpet next to Andre in Paris. Huh. :)

    I get it! But that orchestra was one of the very best back then. Was living in Europe back then and heard them...Too late in life to deny myself something that might be great on the basis of $. Especially in these times. I could not have imagined anyone being that good as Lise Davidsen .
    She will be doing Wagner in the fall in 2026 I missed her Mozart the year before and feel as you did in 1974 Also Europe was in a massive recession in 1974 and a lot of wicked world events in Europe....Vietnam was just winding down..
    Fortunately, we had Bernstein taking us through that era in NYC
    I generally choose to spend my music $ on opera as the Met is more special than the NYPO. Still arguably the best house in the world
