The PEQ (DSP) is in the digital path of the music file (or stream) if the feature is turned ON. The file itself is never altered except in realtime during playback - if the PEQ (DSP) feature is enabled. The resulting output is fed to the outboard DAC on the Roon music server or Roon network streamer.Roon Server software supports various DSP operations including parametric EQ, headroom management, cross-feed, sample rate conversions including PCM to PCM or on-the-fly PCM to DSD. These are done in a 64-bit digital domain and can be optionally enabled and configured or left turned OFF.
Roon Server can be run on a low end Intel Celeron CPU based system like a CPU that might be found in a consumer Network Attached Storage (NAS) but for heavy duty DSP it is best to run it on a higher-end CPU like an Intel i5/i7/i9 PC or any of the Apple M series CPUs. Some on-the-fly PCM to DSD conversions can be very CPU intensive. Other DSP features, not so much.

It doesn't matter how many bits. Both digital EQ and analog EQ will introduce phase distortion which is not a good thing for soundstage.
I DO KNOW that the DSP based EQ that I have at my disposal is far better sounding than any of the old analog EQ I had in the past.Phase distortion occurs everywhere in the entire audio system including your electronics, speakers, and room. How much is the question.
Oops, I forgot to mention jitter.
Best not to listen to music because there's nothing but phase distortion going on everywhere, plus digital jitter.

Once it was destroyed, you don't even know it was there.
I have no idea what you are talking about in the context of this conversation. I just know that my DSP based digital P.EQ is far superior to anything I've had in the analog domain.... as EQ goes. But like I said, it's something that can easily be turned ON or OFF.

What interconnects do you use?
I use DH Labs Silver Sonic which was / is an audiophile "value brand". But I've had many others over the years. More recently I've been using Mogami commonly found in pro audio. It's cheap and effective and comes with no audiophile marketing slicks packed with ridiculous hyperbole.

Thumbs up for Mogami wires. Sound good and resistant to outside frequency interference. Mr Krieger would approve.
